Giant’s Causeway is Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. This sprawling lunar landscape is dotted with soaring cliffs, inaccessible bays, fishermen’s cottages and isolated ruins.

This wonderful Giant’s Causeway tour also includes a visit to the Dunluce Castle, the opportunity to cross the swinging Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and whiskey tasting at Bushmills; the world’s oldest distillery.

There is no hotel pick-up. The tour begins from the Belfast International Youth Hostel. You will be picked up from here and taken in an air-conditioned coach along the famous Antrim Coast Road, with views across Scotland. Listen to an interesting live commentary as you marvel at the breathtaking scenery of the Antrim Coast and the Glens of Antrim.

As you leave Belfast, there will be a short photo-stop at Carrickfergus Castle to give you a taste of what is on offer on the day ahead.

Enjoy the first main stop of the day, where the adventure enthusiast can make the adrenaline-pumping trip across the swinging Carrick-a-rede Rope bridge, and back again (March – October only, weather permitting). The bridge spans a chasm some 30 metres deep and 20 metres wide. Earlier it was a single hand rail and widely spaced slats which fishermen would traverse across with salmon caught off the island.

Then travel onward to the main highlight of the tour, the Giants Causeway, Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site and view its incredible rock formations. Dotted around the coast, you will come across small sheltered harbors and slipways, fishermen’s cottages and rock formations. Spend some time climbing over the ancient stones, before making a retreat to one of the tempting cafes or restaurants at the Causeway for lunch (payable direct).

After you re-fuel at the Causeway, re-board your luxury coach to move on to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery at Bushmills. Founded in 1608, it is the only Irish distillery using 100% malted barley in its whiskies, in a range which includes Bushmills Original, Black Bush and a range of malts, including the Bushmills 12-year old malt. You will have time here to browse in the extensive gift shop, or make a visit to the Bar to have a swift taste or two of the famous tipple (payable direct)!

End this activity packed day with a visit to the ruins of the ancient Dunluce Castle. Admire the breathtaking scenery all around this ancient castle. The castle is one of the most extensive ruins of a medieval castle in Northern Ireland.

You can then relax on the comfortable journey back to Belfast.

At the end of the tour you will be dropped back at the Belfast International Youth Hostel where the tour ends.
